Mary Kay Products I LOVE

Mary Kay Products I Love

I usually post about Mary Kay on Monday’s but I’ve been slacking and haven’t posted about it in some time, so here is a little Mary Kay Friday for ya. 😉

As many of you know I sell Mary Kay. I have tried quite a bit of their products now and here are a few that I really LOVE. Of course, with ANY brand there are hits and misses. I have found some misses within this brand but for the most part I honest to goodness love the products. There are a few things that you are better off buying at the drugstore because they are so much cheaper, as is the case with other brands. Take MAC for example. You can buy all MAC lipliners because they have a great range of color, or you can save some money and get some NYX lipliners which are good and have a pretty good range of shades as well.

The products I have picked here are ones that stand out to me within the brand that I will continue to purchase for myself. I have already bought backups of a few of these. I have also recently bought new products that I have yet to test for you all so this may need an update at some point.

First, let me say that I did not include the eyeshadow and blush. It’s great though. I use it frequently but I also use a ton of other eyeshadows and blushes from other brands. I find those are things that people tend to really use from a variety of brands. I love MAC, Urban Decay, Tarte, theBalm, Wet N Wild, Makeup Geek, BH Cosmetics…. and so many other drugstore brands!

Lipsticks are kind of the same, but like MAC has their’s that stand out, I love the True Dimensions line from Mary Kay. The formula of this lipstick is amazingly moisturizing feeling. I am very picky about lip products, as I have dry lips and I can’t wear any matte formulas. This formula isn’t too glossy that it doesn’t stay on, but glossy enough (if that is the right word here) that it feels comfortable on the lips. My absolute favorite shade is Color Me Coral. I feel it’s a flattering shade for most skin tones!

When it comes to skin care Mary Kay is my new favorite. Before I started selling I had only tried products from the drugstore. I immediately loved my Mary Kay Timewise Miracle set, but I thought to myself, is it because it’s the first “high end type” skincare product I have gotten? I decided to test a few others. I’ve recently gotten products from theBalm and the highly raved about Michael Todd True Organics. I wasn’t impressed with theBalm’s. Michael Todd was good but I didn’t like the scent and the cleanser I got I felt like left a strange feeling on my Clarisonic after I used it with it. Almost, a waxy feeling. The rest of that cleanser is now sitting in a drawer. I really prefer the Miracle Set over everything else I have tried.

There is also the Timewise Microdermabrasion Set which is AMAZING. Seriously. You need it in your life. When you need to slough off all the dead dry skin and leave it feeling super soft and fresh. Use this! It’s great. Do not overuse it though. Limit it to 2-3 times a week waiting 2 days between applications and do not use with acne treatment products.

Satin Hands Set…. you all have probably already heard about this. It is definitely a Mary Kay bestseller and is great. It is a three step process to leaving hands feeling soft, smooth, and hydrated.

Travel Roll Up Bag – If you travel you need this. It is GREAT! Each clear bag within the black roll comes off so that you can take one individual bag to the bathroom with you if you don’t need the entire roll.

Mascaras… I was on the fence about the mascaras, I will be completely honest. I thought to myself, “Well geez, I can get my Maybelline The Rocket much cheaper!” Well, I started using the lash primer which helps boosts the drama on ANY mascara you choose. I was in love with it. Then, I recently got my Lash Love back out and the Ultimate mascara. I knew I loved the brush on the Lash Love and that it did a pretty good job of defining my lashes and lengthening, it just didn’t give me the added volume that I wanted. The Ultimate, which is formulated for volumizing, didn’t give me the length I wanted. Use these two together and BAM! Dramatic gorgeous lashes! I had previously said that the Lash Love clumped on me. I believe I was trying to use way too much. Most mascara is going to clump if you continue to coat it on. I am definitely a two to three coat kind of girl to get the drama that I like with my lashes but, the Lash Love isn’t formulated for that, it’s for definition which it does very well. So, put one to two coats of that on and then go over with The Ultimate for volume. The Ultimate also is formulated not to clump and I have never had any problems with it trying to, no matter how much I pile on. LOVE LOVE LOVE these two together. Try it out, you won’t be disappointed! Also, the staying power of the Mary Kay mascaras is AMAZING. I HAVE to use an eye makeup remover at the end of the day, which brings me to my next product.

Oil Free Eyemakeup Remover – holy moly. I’ve tried others. They can’t compare. Honestly. Get ya some.

Liquid Eyeliner – this is my new favorite. I love the felt tip applicator for the precise line. It doesn’t smudge or smear and dries quickly. Love it. My new go-to liquid liner.

Eye Primer – Their eye primer has been my favorite since before I signed up to sell the products. It’s what I reach for all of the time. My mom likes Urban Decay Primer Potion so I gave her mine. I didn’t care for it because I prefer my Mary Kay primer over everything else. True story.

Mary Kay lip primer – I just recently got this. It is supposed to prep and prime your lips for your lipstick. You are to use it all over the lips, and outside of the lip line, to fill in any small fine lines that your lipstick might settle into. So far, I’m thinking I REALLY love this stuff. I have only tried it a few times but so far… LOVE.

Luminous Wear Foundation – all of their foundation is honestly great. I’ve tried a ton of drugstore and love my MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus and the Loreal True Match Lumi, but I really like the Mary Kay coverage. If you have dry skin the Luminous Wear is for you. If you have oily the Matte Wear is perfect. If you like a powder, they have that too! It’s all really good.

Lastly, I have to give an honorable mention to the concealer. Before I discovered my new HOLY GRAIL under eye concealer, I really loved Mary Kay’s. I was able to hide the appearance of my under eye circles and conceal any blemishes all over the face. It is a great concealer with really good coverage. I still use this and prefer it for any spot concealing on the face but now have a new favorite for under my eyes. I’m working on a blog post of that and will share it soon. I want to get a before and after shot for you so that you can really see how well this new found amazing concealer works. 😉

There you have it! Just a few (or a lot) of my favorite Mary Kay products. If you have a question about anything else shoot me an e-mail and I will answer you with 100% honesty! Standout products for me is the skin care. It’s really great! Then, of course, all other products mentioned here.

December Faves!

20130102-211633.jpg

Yay it’s that time again for a monthly favorites post! I did forget a couple things in the picture which is my beloved eos Lip Balm and my Mary Kay Satin Lips set. I have a blog review on both of those products if you want to know more about why I love them. Now, on to what is pictured…

elf HD Powder – eyeslipsface.com
This is a super light powder that is perfect for setting makeup. I use the fluff pad that came with it and dab it all over my face to set my foundation. I have the translucent shade which is white. I have heard if you get too crazy with it it can lighten your makeup look some. I am really fair skin toned so I haven’t noticed an issue. I did notice some bigger specks that did not seem as powder but I just got a big fluffy brush and brushed them away.

elf Blush Brush – eyeslipsface.com
I needed a good contouring brush and picked this one up for that reason. It is perfect for contouring. I don’t think it would be as good for blush but that is only my opinion. I like a fluffier bigger brush for blush. For the price this brush has been great!

elf Eye Smudger Brush – eyslipsface.com
This was only a buck! Does the job so I can’t complain!

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation – Walmart $11.97
As I have mentioned several times before, I have really dry skin. Especially during the winter months so I have started using this by itself instead of my Revlon Colorstay. The Healthy Skin is a little more luminous or dewy so it is working better for the cold weather. I also have been applying with mostly my fingers and then blending a little better with a MAC foundation brush for a little fuller coverage. There are only 10 shades so not much of a color choice. Mine is Classic Ivory (yes I’m very pale). I do love this foundation, which is why I have included it in my December Faves but I do feel like it is overpriced for the drugstore, as are a lot of other foundations.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment – $7.94 Walmartw
I have pretty bad dark circles under my eyes and am always looking for a good concealer. I used Mary Kay before and it had always been my favorite but I didn’t have a consultant that I knew to buy from for awhile so haven’t used it in years. I picked this up a few weeks ago after hearing such good reviews about it and I’m glad that I did! I really do love how well it conceals the circles. It comes in 7 different shades, mine is fair but I’m going to also try the “brightening” shade as its more of a peachy tone and will counteract with the bluish tint under my eyes.

NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Powder in Sunny- Walmart $2.99?
I found mine at Walmart but cannot remember the price. I found it listed on KMarts website for 2.99 and that sounds about right. I picked this up after seeing a lot of people say that it is a dupe for Benefit’s Hoola. There are mixed opinions on that and I can’t really have one since I do not own Benefits Hoola Bronzer but I can say that I like this one. I like it because I can use it for contouring and it does not have any shimmer which a lot of drugstore bronzers tend to have.

DoTerra Hydrating Cream $46
My good friend and fellow Linewife, Jody sent me this and I must say I really like it. I didn’t love the smell at first but I have gotten used to it. It contains essential oils that fight aging and moisturize the skin WITHOUT leaving it feeling oily. I hate moisturizers on my face that feel greasy afterwards. This one soaks right in and leaves my skin feeling moisturized but not greasy or heavy with product. It only takes a little and I especially like this under my makeup because of the lightness of it. If you’re interested in this or other products from DoTerra check Jody’s site: http://www.mydoterra.com/jodysimmer/

MAC Studio Mist Blush in Peach Spritz
I almost didn’t include this because it is discontinued. 😦 They aren’t selling any of the studio mist line anymore. I got this years ago and used it everyday for awhile and then just got it back out last month. I really like it and the color. Sad you can’t get them anymore… I did find it listed on eBay for $50 but I think I’ll just mourn the loss once its empty and move on to something else. 😉

Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow
This has been another one of those products that I have had for quite sometime but just now started using again. I looked online and these seem to run about $5. I use this under my powder shadows as a good base of color and a lid primer. I got the quad that had the most skin tone shades and I’ve used all of them under different eyeshadow looks. Under the shadows it does not crease or cake up.

Urban Decay Naked Palette Sephora $50
Saved the best for last. I finally got the oh-so-popular Naked Palette. I now see what all the hype was about. LOVE it. Super pigmented, creamy, blendable shadows. There are supposedly several dupes out there for this and color wise I’m sure there is but product wise I doubt it. I really love the formula of Urban Decay shadows. My favorite so far. If I ran out of this I would definitely buy another.

REVIEW: December Ipsy Bag

DecemberIpsy

I got my first Ipsy bag in the mail the other day. I was SO excited about this bag! First let me start off by explaining what Ipsy (formerly My Glam) is.

From the Ipsy website: “Each month, subscribers will receive a beautiful Glam Bag with deluxe samples and full-sized beauty products. Members can watch and play along with the stylists with the same products that they are using. All for only $10 a month.”

So, why I think this is amazing: I paid $10 for the bag you see above. It came in a cute hot pink bubble pack in the mail. How fun is that? Then I open it to find the small makeup bag. They send you a different makeup bag every month. To me it doesn’t feel like a cheaply made bag at all. It’s something that can definitely be reused and tossed into another bag or purse. They aren’t always solid prints either.

Then, inside the bag is where it got exciting. Right away I saw the Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner pencil. I’ve been wanting to try these! They retail for $18. The one I received does seem to be a travel size but, it’s still a great size! Then, I got a red lipgloss from be a…Bombshell in the shade Hot Mess. Super pigmented, although slightly sticky and I don’t like sticky glosses. I probably won’t repurchase but if you have a tolerance for slightly sticky glosses, I would check the other shades out. The color is gorgeous though, and I got a full size which retails for $14! Next, a FULL SIZE  Mirabella’s face primer. I like it a lot. It feels like my Prime Time from Bare Minerals but you need even less of it to get all over the face. Mirabella retails for $29!! Next, the Mai Couture Highlighter Papier. I have seen these but never tried them and still haven’t yet. I’m interested though. They’re sheets that you tear off and can use to highlight the face and the body vs. using a pressed powder highlighter.  The booklet I got contains 25 sheets. You can get 50 sheets from Nordstrom for $28! Lastly, another product I was excited about, the NYX loose pearl shadow. Mine came in gold. SOMETIMES everyone gets the same color in products and sometimes they send out different colors in each bag. Everyone got black for the eyeliner and everyone got red for the lipgloss. The loose shadow was the only thing that could be different this month, I believe.

So my bag retails for over $60 but I paid $10! I can’t wait to see what next months bag is going to contain!! To sign up for your own Ipsy bag visit their website!

I am not affiliatied with Ipsy or any of the brands mentioned above. I bought the Ipsy bag with my own money and the reviews of products are my personal opinion. I do not recieve anything for you signing up for your own Ipsy subscription.

Holiday Gift Ideas – Makeup Palettes

ImageAre you trying to decide what to get that makeup lover in your life? You really cannot go wrong with a makeup palette. A lot of companies will put out new palettes just for the Holidays, which makes a palette junkie like myself a little crazy. I absolutely LOVE palettes. You have all of your eyeshadows right there to see and play with. Coming up with a look is much easier. Higher end palettes can seem expensive, but when you look at all that you are getting it really is a good amount for your price.

So, what are some must have shadow palettes in my opinion? You really can’t go wrong with any Urban Decay palette. Their most popular? Definitely the Naked and Naked 2. These two palettes are probably not only the most popular for Urban Decay but also the two that I hear the most about. If you are on YouTube much it doesn’t take long to find out that the Naked palettes are definitely favorites among the beauty gurus.

Another favorite seems to be the Lorac PRO palette. I don’t own this but wish I did. I’ve seen so many reviews and recommendations for it on blogs and YouTube channels.

theBalm also has a lot of fun palettes. A good one would be the NUDE’tude eyeshadow palette. Another great Christmas idea, that comes with more than shadows, from theBalm,is the Balm Jovi Face Palette. I have both of these palettes on the way so I can’t wait to try them! You will be seeing more about them soon.

Wanting to go the cheaper route? Wet n Wild Coloricon Palettes. I know when many of you think Wet n Wild you think cheap. You’re right; but only in the price. The shadows are highly pigmented and easily blendable. The quality of the shadows for the price can’t be beat. You can find them at Walgreens or online.

More shadow palettes that won’t put a dent in your wallet are:

BH Cosmetics – these are super pigmented and blendable. They ARE soft so you have to be careful and you can get a little bit of fallout with them but for the price they’re amazing. I two of the 88 shadow palettes and used them almost everyday until I got my new NYX palette that I’ve been loving. For someone just starting out on makeup my suggestion is to keep it simple. Maybe start with the 28 or 26 shadow palettes. This way you aren’t overwhelmed when you open it and see all of the color options.

NYX Cosmetics – Another great option for a cheaper price! I have the Haute Jersey palette that I love. I love that it comes with blushes and bronzing powders as well as two lip glosses along with the shadows. Also, supposedly the Nude on Nude palette is a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked palette. I cannot vouch for that, as I don’t have either, but this is what I hear. 🙂

Of course, there are MANY MANY MANY more makeup palettes and kits out there worth mentioning. If you know of a brand that the person you are shopping for really loves, then head to your local Sephora or Ulta and shop the Holiday kits and palettes. If this person just loves makeup in general, check out some of the popular palettes mentioned above. Hope this helps!
